Having recently returned to training from a long-term injury, Brandon Williams is believed to be determined to get minutes under his belt between now and the remainder of the season.
The 22-year-old is unlikely to get regular game time at Manchester United, but according to the Manchester Evening News, Williams is open to going on loan before next week’s winter transfer deadline.
Williams has made just one appearance for United since May 2021, but that is partly because he spent last season on loan at Norwich City. It’s an immediate disadvantage when a new manager arrives and you miss the first four months of the season through injury, however, Ten Hag got to see him in action in United’s friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis last month.
It was good to see the full-back mark his return with a late cameo in the League Cup fourth round win over Burnley. Ten Hag went on to select him for the bench in games against Nottingham Forest and Wolves, but he was an unused substitute in both matches.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s return to the side as Diogo Dalot’s back-up option only pushes Williams further down the pecking order.
The academy graduate is under contract until 2024, so hopefully a good loan offer comes through the door before next week’s deadline. It would be good to see Williams back on the pitch.
United must ensure it is the right loan move for William’s development. He needs to go somewhere where he will be starting football matches.
