Martinez shines but winger struggles: player ratings from Arsenal 3-2 Man United

Manchester United’s long unbeaten run has come to an end as the Reds fell in their crucial clash with Arsenal on Sunday. The 90-minute affair was seen as United’s great opportunity of sneaking into the title race but after losing, that looks highly unlikely.

Marcus Rashford gave Erik ten Hag’s men an early lead with a delightful strike but Arsenal responded quickly through Eddie Nketiah.

The hosts took the lead minutes into the second half but this time, it was United who responded almost immediately. The game was hanging in the balance for United and in heartbreaking fashion, for the second game running, a late goal sealed the deal for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Man United Player Ratings

David de Gea – 6
Could perhaps have done better on Bukayo Saka’s goal. Made one spectacular save at the end but unfortunately, it didn’t mean anything.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Some good blocks as usual but went to sleep for Arsenal’s first goal. Poor.

Raphael Varane – 8
World-class defender and proved it again.

Lisandro Martinez – 8
Scored his first goal for the club to mark a stunning individual performance.

Luke Shaw – 7
Saka was a handful.

Scott McTominay – 6
Casemiro’s replacement on the night and was completely overrun.

Christian Eriksen – 5
Game flew past him.

Bruno Fernandes – 6
One of the very few occasions over the past three years that you can really say that he wasn’t in the game at all, even if he’s credited with the assist for Rashford’s goal.

Antony – 5
Seemed to lose ground when driving with the ball. Extremely poor defensively.

Marcus Rashford – 8
One of the best players in the Premier League but just didn’t have the backup today.

Wout Weghorst – 6
An unforgiving role as the only forward against a far superior team. All things considered, he did OK.

  1. your ratings are very very generous ,,,so shaw gets a 7 ,meaning he must have had a good game, but his man scored and had so much trouble that lukey had to man handle him throughout the game .
    do you watch the games?
what exactly does your 5 mean? that he showed up with his pants on?
too many players were poor ,,,starting with scott …erikson …antony….and degea.

  2. How did Luke Shaw get 7 while he was 1-10 very very poor, out of position twice and overrun by Saka. First leg we beet Arsenal coz Malacia put Saka in her pockets
