Aaron Wan-Bissaka says team spirit and togetherness is high in Manchester United’s camp

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has reflected on an outstanding team performance on Saturday in which Manchester United saw off their noisy neighbours emphatically.

The Red Devils were in fine form heading into the Manchester derby but the players, staff and supporters alike knew that this would be one of the most significant tests they would face to truly test their abilities on the pitch.

This is due to the reverse meeting back in October ending so poorly; United suffered a 6-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium and faced media backlash for a prolonged time following the match.

However, Erik ten Hag and his men made sure this time was different; a 2-1 win took the Reds to within one point of the Blues in joint third place (with Newcastle United) and had Old Trafford bouncing with pride long after the full-time whistle. It cemented the idea even more to supporters that Ten Hag will be the man the bring the glory days back to M16.

Since that defeat at the Etihad, United have overseen just one loss in 19 games.

A performance that perhaps fell under the radar to neutral viewers was Wan-Bissaka’s. He came in for the injured Diogo Dalot for the fifth time this season and was exceptional for the full 90 minutes. The 25-year-old played a crucial role in keeping City’s ever-threatening attackers quiet.

Wan-Bissaka reflects on City triumph

Wan-Bissaka has looked back on the match whilst talking to United’s club media and said: “For me, first it’s the team, you put the team first, the team performance. But individually I was happy with the way I played. That always helps with the team around you. We’re all really together and helping each other on the pitch.”

On the atmosphere inside the stadium, he added: “Definitely [it was pleasing to hear the crowd cheer]. It also pushes your confidence up to continue doing what you do best. Obviously, that pleased the fans and led to a chance in the game, so it was a good moment.”

The right-back also stressed the importance of keeping the form strong heading into the forthcoming fixtures.

We know with all of the games coming up that none of them will be easy, but we all go into every game with the mentality to win. I think we need to take every game, game by game with the aim of just winning.”
