(Video) Erik Ten Hag explains decision to start Fred in Manchester derby

Manchester United will start with two holding midfielders against Manchester City during Saturday’s mouth-watering Premier League derby at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils come into this one off the back of eight wins on the bounce and are looking to put a stop to their rivals’ domination in the last few seasons.

City have won this fixture in the team’s last three meetings but United, who are arguably in better form, will be looking to claim all three points and cement themselves as genuine title contenders.

Lining up his midfield, Erik Ten Hag has opted to go with Casemiro and Fred behind Bruno Fernandes, and explaining his decision to name the Brazilian defensive duo, the Dutchman, who spoke to BT Sport before kick-off, said: “It’s an idea to get an over number in there, to bring him there, so we have a plan with that.

“They have to make choices and also that [could] give us space in the midfield or behind the defending line.”
