Manchester United stadium expansion project put on hold

Manchester United seemingly have two stadium expansion options but the entire process has been put on hold. One of those possibilities could see the demolition of Old Trafford.

Leading consultants Legends International and Populous have completed their assignment for Manchester United. They were both hired after their responsibility in building Tottenham’s new stadium, which is now seen as the best ground in the Premier League.

Ask any United fan and they will argue that we deserve better.

If you ask me, I’ll tell you United should be leading the way for having the best stadium and training facilities in the country. Sadly, we are a million miles away and you can thank the Glazers for that.

According to the Daily Mail, club officials were presented with plans which included a refurbishment of Old Trafford and a new home which would be most likely built on the acres of club-owned land surrounding the current ground.

However, with the club up for sale, any progress on the stadium front is unlikely until Manchester United find new owners.

The report claims that a new stadium, which would allow United to carry on playing at Old Trafford while the work is carried out, could cost £2 billion — almost double the cost of redeveloping the Theatre of Dreams, where United have played their football for 112-years.

When you factor in time and loss of revenue, a new build is almost the same as redevelopment of Old Trafford.

This could explain why the club has been putting extra executive tickets on sale. By testing the demand for executive tickets, it gives them more data ahead of stadium redevelopment or a new build.
