Manchester United will face Nottingham Forest in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup after the newly-promoted side eliminated Wolverhampton Wanderers on penalties.

United loanee Dean Henderson was key to Forest advancing into the last four of the competition, saving two penalties in their shootout against Julen Lopetegui’s men.

Erik ten Hag’s men secured their passage into the last four earlier this week following a comprehensive 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic, with goals from Antony and Marcus Rashford ensuring the victory.

The Reds will now face Forest twice in a two-legged affair, with the first game played at the City Ground. The draw comes roughly two weeks after United comfortably dismantled Forest at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Southampton will face Newcastle in the other semi-final, which means there is a possibility of a mouthwatering final showdown between Newcastle and United.

The final will be played at the end of February and the tournament now presents itself as United’s best chance of ending their six-year wait for a trophy, having failed to win silverware for each of the last five seasons.
