Wout Weghorst confident he will join Manchester United on loan

Wout Weghorst has quickly become Manchester United main transfer target in January.

Erik ten Hag needs to sign a centre-forward this month to really push for a strong end to the 2022/23 season. We were lacking in the goalscoring department throughout the first half of the season but, after terminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, Anthony Martial is the only real option as Marcus Rashford has a greater impact on the left flank.

Weghorst, 30, is currently on loan from Burnley but United have enquired about a deal for the striker. The Dutch striker scored for Besiktas at the weekend and his celebration raised a few eyebrows because he appeared to say goodbye to the fans.

According to the Manchester Evening News, sources in the Netherlands believe an agreement is close, while those at Manchester United claim discussions are exploratory.

The report also adds that Weghorst is ‘confident’ of completing his loan move to United this month.

This story has blown up over the weekend and I would be very surprised if there was no truth in it. Furthermore, Weghorst is exactly the type of striker Ten Hag should be trying to sign for the remainder of the season.

Not only is Weghorst a pressing monster but he will of give us aerial threat in the box. That should help players like Antony and Bruno Fernandes when it comes to recording more assists.
