Watford keen on signing Manchester United defender on loan

Axel Tuanzebe could be set to leave Manchester United on loan again, with Watford being one club tracking the defender.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made changes to his defence in recent weeks. We’ve seen both Casemiro and Luke Shaw play at centre-back, so the Dutchman has no problem switching things around if he feels it will get him the right results.

The Red Devils are in fine form, off the back of four consecutive wins — in all competitions — but Ten Hag was quick to dismiss claims that the team should be considered Premier League title contenders.

Since Ten Hag was willing to play Casemiro and Shaw at centre-back, the likes of Axel Tuanzebe will be hoping for opportunities in the second half of the season. The English defender returned in the summer from a loan spell at Napoli but he doesn’t seem to be part of Ten Hag’s plans just yet.

According to agent Jon Smith, who does not represent Tuanzebe, the defender could be set for another loan move to the Championship.

“Axel Tuanzebe is worth paying attention to in this window,” Smith told CaughtOffside.

“He’s just returned to Man United from his loan in Italy and he’s on the right path to regarding full fitness. I know he’s back in training and being put through his paces, so it’s just a case of whether or not Erik ten Hag fancies him for a first-team place, or if he’d prefer to see him go on loan again.

“Of course, the player himself will have to keep proving his fitness, but there are several clubs interested — mostly from the Championship. Watford are one side who are keen though.”

Tuanzebe has had a number of injuries throughout his short professional career and I strongly believe that has harnessed his development.
