Manchester United provide fitness update on centre-back

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has battled through grueling injury problems over the last few years, with the young Englishman’s career, unfortunately, stagnating due to his fitness.

Tuanzebe was tipped for great things at Old Trafford and in 2019, he captained the first team against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup, becoming one of very few players to captain the Reds at every age group.

In 2020, he made headlines for his spectacular performance in the 2-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and that could have been the start of something special but instead, he fell out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian boss preferred Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire and Tuanzebe has not featured for United in a competitive fixture since the 2020/21 season.

With just one year remaining on his contract, Tuanzebe’s future at United is up in the air and it didn’t help that the 25-year-old missed pre-season under Erik ten Hag.

He has not been available for selection in the first half of the season but now, the club has issued a statement and provided an update on his fitness.

As per the official Manchester United website, Tuanzebe is ‘working hard’ to regain full fitness and is planning to make a return to football in the second half of the season.

It’s stated that Tuanzebe is completing his rehabilitation in-house at the club’s Carrington training complex, with the defender staying in Manchester to undergo his personalised training programme as the rest of the squad completes a mid-season training camp in Spain.
