Manchester United to open Old Trafford to local community throughout December

Manchester United are planning to open the doors of Old Trafford to the local community during December to help those facing difficult months due to cost of living rises.

At a time heating and food prices are on the up, the Red Cafe will be open to provide locals in need somewhere warm to have a hot drink and some snacks. Free Wi-Fi is also available.

This is available to everyone, free of charge, every Monday and Wednesday for the next three weeks.

It begins on 5 December from 17:00 to 20:00 GMT.

Collette Roche, Manchester United’s Chief Operating Officer, told club media: “Whether Christmas is part of people’s life or not, the festive period can be a difficult time for many. It’s a time of year that puts extra pressure on people and can affect mental health and wellbeing in lots of different ways.

“Through our United by Your Side campaign, we want people who are struggling to know that they are not alone, particularly in our local community. We want to make Old Trafford a second home by providing winter accessories, company, warmth and food for those who need it.”

This is a good gesture from the club because it shows that they understand that people close to the ground may be struggling.

In addition to this, United want to help combat loneliness during the festive month. They will introduce ‘talking benches’ on the forecourt at Old Trafford for those feeling lonely or worried.

Kudos to United for the thoughtful incentive.

Gestures like this can make fans proud of the club… it’s just a shame the Glazers still own the club.
