Mauricio Pochettino praises Manchester United star after starring for England

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has become the latest person to sing the praises of Marcus Rashford after the winger scored a stunning brace against Wales.

Rashford’s double took him to the top of this winter’s World Cup scoring charts and the 25-year-old will be looking for his first start in Sunday’s round-of-16 clash with Senegal.

Pochettino, who was one of two candidates to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Norwegian’s sacking last year, was reportedly keen on bringing him to Paris during his 18-month reign in charge of the club.

The Argentine manager departed the French giants over the summer and now, he has praised Rashford and admitted he has always been a fan of the Wythenshawe-born winger.

“I’ve always liked [Rashford],” Pochettino is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I knew of his process because I was in England, but I think he’s a great player.

“He just needs the confidence and for himself to believe, to put him at the top level. The quality is there for him.”

SN’s verdict…
Rashford’s stunning return to form is fantastic to watch and hopefully, he will continue to develop under Erik ten Hag and become the player we have all waited for.

His impressive form this season has meant that he is one of the first names on Ten Hag’s teamsheet but there is a decision to be made, with his current deal expiring at the end of this season.

United have the option to extend that deal for an additional season but that is a short-term solution and if he keeps this form up, Europe’s elite clubs will be circling.
