Man United pair eliminated from World Cup after Group D showdown

Two Manchester United players have been eliminated from the World Cup as Group D was decided on Friday, with Christian Eriksen’s Denmark and Hannibal Mejbri’s Tunisia bowing out of the tournament.

Denmark endured a rather underwhelming tournament as a whole, finishing bottom of the group on just one point despite being heavy favourites to make it to the round of 16.

Denmark’s surprise elimination comes just over a year after they made it to the semi-finals of the European Championship last year, losing to England in extra time.

Tunisia were, however, expected to drop out of the tournament at this stage but the African giants certainly didn’t go down without a fight.

Faced with the challenge of beating France, the reigning champions, Tunisia did just that but were still eliminated after Australia reached six points by defeating Denmark.

Mejbri did not start any of the games for Tunisia and only featured for 10 minutes in their opening game against Denmark.

The midfield pair will now return to their clubs, with Mejbri still on loan at Championship club Birmingham. Eriksen is expected to be given a short break before making his way back to Carrington for the rest of the season.

United kick off their season again in roughly three weeks as Burnley make the trip to Old Trafford for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
