(Video) Rashford reveals friend died days before Wales match as he explains goal celebration

Marcus Rashford’s celebration after scoring for England was a tribute to a friend who recently lost their battle with cancer.

The Three Lions ace scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Wales in Qatar on Tuesday night.

Rashford’s first goal came after the interval from a stunning free-kick that gave goalkeeper Danny Ward no chance between the posts. He then celebrated the strike by kneeling down and pointing towards the sky with his eyes closed.

Speaking after the game, Rashford told reporters the celebration was in honour of a friend who died just days before the match.

He said: “Unfortunately I lost one of my friends a couple of days ago.

“He’s had quite a long battle with cancer so I’m pleased I managed to score for him.

“He’s always been a big supporter of mine, he was just a great person and I’m pleased he came into my life really.”

Rashford’s second goal saw him showcase some wonderful skill to cut in from the right flank.

Hopefully he can continue this form when he returns to United after the World Cup.
