Reports suggest Erik ten Hag is unhappy with Jadon Sancho

Erik ten Hag is reportedly unhappy with Jadon Sancho’s performances at Manchester United.

According to AS, the manager has made Sancho aware of his dissatisfaction with his performances and asked the 22-year-old for more commitment.

A major blow for Sancho came earlier this month when Gareth Southgate announced his 26-man squad to represent England at the World Cup in Qatar – Sancho was omitted, but teammate Marcus Rashford was included. The pair had missed out on an England call-up following the EUROs due to their poor form at club level, however, Rashford was able to secure his place after picking up several goal contributions this season.

Before the international break, Sancho did not start five consecutive matches for the Red Devils, three due to injury and two as a substitute. He has three goals and one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

In total for United, Sancho has scored eight goals and four assists in 52 appearances, compared to his time at Borussia Dortmund, where he totalled 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games. Granted, the English division is considerably different to Germany, but the numbers are simply not good enough for an attacker at United.

He now faces competition from academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho, who has levelled Sancho’s goal contributions in six fewer matches.

StrettyNews’ verdict

The prolific ability he displayed at Dortmund is still there for Sancho, it’s just an issue for Ten Hag on how long it will take to unlock it. Confidence likely plays a significant factor, especially after the disappointment of the Euro 2020 final last year, in which he missed a crucial penalty in the shootout.

Given his performances in the past, Sancho is definitely one worth sticking with, and the manager I’d trust the most to get the most out of him is Ten Hag.
