Marcus Rashford comments on Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial Man United exit

Most of the Manchester United first-team squad have remained silent on Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial exit earlier this month but some players taking part in the World Cup have been exposed to questions about it.

Summer signing Casemiro, who starred in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Serbia this week, admitted the players are sad over his departure.

Ronaldo left the club after he was heavily critical of the club and manager Erik ten Hag in an explosive interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan.

Now, speaking ahead of England’s important World Cup fixture against Wales, Marcus Rashford has commented on Ronaldo’s exit, admitting the superstar forward is one of his idols.

“It has been an unbelievable experience to play with him,” Rashford is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“He is one of my idols and someone I always looked up to. It’s something I can keep with me forever, I wish him all the best and we want to thank him for the things he’s done for Man United.”

Amid the turbulence Ronaldo’s departure has brought, Rashford is one of several United players enjoying good World Cup campaigns. The 25-year-old scored his first goal in the tournament in England’s 6-2 win over Iran earlier this week.

SN’s verdict…
United players are highly unlikely to turn on Ronaldo publicly but privately, you could assume that some players don’t agree with how he handled his exit.

Burning bridges publicly is never a good move and regardless of how Ronaldo’s relationship with players is portrayed by the press, we’ll never know how they get on behind closed doors.

Ronaldo is evidently one of Rashford’s idols – the winger did grow up watching the Portuguese legend rise to stardom at Old Trafford.
