Manchester United spent over 100 days chasing Frenkie de Jong in the summer only for the midfielder to stay at Barcelona.

Some reports have stated that United remain keen on signing De Jong – but it would depend on whether the Netherlands international is willing to leave which isn’t the case.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now dealt a blow to United’s hopes of signing De Jong by claiming the midfielder is happy at Barcelona and does not wish to leave the club anytime soon.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Romano added that a transfer to United is impossible.

“For January, I think it is almost impossible, but for the summer it depends on the player, because Frenkie de Jong has always said no to any move, it’s not just to Manchester United, he decided to stay at Barcelona, he’s happy at Barcelona, if Frenkie changes his mind, then we will see.”

Erik ten Hag needs reinforcements in midfield but he won’t be getting De Jong midway through the season. There’s absolutely no chance of that happening.

  1. Watching Frenkie playing at the World Cup, I have a feeling he will be bullied if he would play in the Premiership. I am not convinced he would be a good buy for United
