Cody Gakpo leaves door open for Manchester United transfer

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Cody Gakpo after the club passed on the opportunity to sign him in the summer.

The Red Devils prioritised a move for Antony, but it doesn’t sound like they’ve abandoned their interested in Gakpo, who has continued his incredible form this season for PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands.

When asked about the recent rumours surrounding his future, Gakpo admitted “anything is possible” this January as he refused to rule out a move.

“I’m focused now on the World Cup,” Gap said at a press conference, as per Sky Sports. “It’s always nice to hear [transfer rumours] but I just focus here and do my best. I don’t get shy about the rumours. But it’s a team sport, it’s not about one person.

“I prefer it to be about the team. It’s nice things that people write, but I’m not too concerned with that. Right now I’m busy with the Dutch team. I’ll see what happens in the winter. In football, anything is possible.”

This may come as a concern for PSV but they were lucky not to lose him last summer. Even Leeds United came close to completing a deal for the World Cup star.

Gakpo has two goals from as many games at the tournament thus far and it comes as no surprise that reports suggest Erik ten Hag is eager to sign him. He contributed to the win over Senegal and broke the deadlock versus Ecuador.
