Manchester United could consider making a move to sign Lille forward Jonathan David as they seek a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

It was recently announced that Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract had been terminated with immediate effect. Manchester United were left with no other choice after the 37-year-old slammed the club in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

One player United are reportedly considering is Lille and Canada forward David, as per Florian Plettenberg via Twitter. He claims the Ligue 1 side will hold out for €50 million in exchange for the player.

Moreover, in a recent column for Caught Offside, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano urged United to sign David in January, tipping him as a striker with great potential.

Romano said: “Personally, I always mention Jonathan David as smart solution for United or other clubs. I already said it a few times; young, talented, available for £43 million. But let’s see what United decided to do.”

Lille ready to cash in on Jonathan David

Purely based on Plettenberg’s tweet, it looks like Lille are trying to attract interest in David, at a time everyone will be watching him perform at the World Cup.

It’s a good time to try to build interest around the player, but there hasn’t been anything to suggest David will be on Erik ten Hag’s wish-list this winter.

Canada were unlucky to get nothing from their opening game of the tournament against Belgium. David didn’t get on the scoresheet but will hope to rectify that tomorrow when they take on Croatia.

I’ll certainly keep a closer eye on him.
