Sky Sports journalist names two strikers Man United are interested in

Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial departure from Manchester United has left a gaping hole in the striker department, with Anthony Martial becoming the only recognised forward.

Martial’s own fitness issues mean that he is unlikely to be available for a prolonged period and that’s something that Erik ten Hag has dealt with so far this season.

The lack of options in that area could prompt United to enter the market in the January transfer window and earlier on Friday, it emerged that Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix has become available.

The 23-year-old would, however, be expensive and Atletico are likely to demand a nine-figure fee to facilitate his departure. There are other options, with Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg naming two players the Old Trafford club could target.

As per the German reporter, Napoli star Victor Osimhen is a ‘top candidate’ to replace Ronaldo at United following the Nigerian’s sparkling start to the season.

It’s claimed that the Old Trafford hierarchy are convinced he could improve the team but Napoli are unlikely to sell in January and will not be convinced by a high bid.

Plettenberg added that former United winger Memphis Depay could be back on the agenda as well. He claims that Memphis is ‘on the list’ and that Ten Hag could envision bringing the Barcelona star back to Old Trafford.

This is deemed to be more advanced than any move for Osimhen and contact has been initiated with ‘all parties’. Barcelona are keen to let Memphis go and could terminate his contract in a bid to make space on the wage bill.
