Real Madrid will reportedly keep an eye on Diogo Dalot as Portugal start their World Cup campaign later today.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Real Madrid will have scouts present to monitor the performances of various targets at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. One of these players will be Diogo Dalot, who goes to the World Cup on the back of a strong start to the season for Manchester United.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid are not the only La Liga club hovering around Dalot at the moment. There has been claims about interest from Barcelona, too, but it is understood that United want to fend off any transfer pursuits to keep the right-back.
The 23-year-old has chipped in with one goal and two assists in 20 appearances so far this season and it has been clear to see the improvements in his game each week, especially on a defensive note, which was an area he previously lacked ability in.
Meanwhile, Portugal’s World Cup campaign starts today against Ghana at 4pm. We’ll be sending our best wishes not just to Dalot, but Bruno Fernandes too.
Real Madrid interest…
It is believed that Real Madrid are on the lookout for a new right-back due to Dani Carvajal’s inconsistencies. The Spaniard is also 30 and now would be a good time to find a replacement.
Sport claims Madrid will “spy” on Dalot since his contract ends next summer and he could potentially arrive at the Bernabeu for free, although United have an option to extend it by a further year.
The other players at the World Cup linked with Real Madrid include Jude Bellingham, Alphonso Davies and Bukayo Saka.
