Bruno Fernandes starts against Ghana, Diogo Dalot on the bench

Ghana will be eager to provide a shock at the World Cup by stopping Bruno Fernandes’ Portugal in their opening match this evening.

Only one Manchester United player features in the starting line-up for Portugal, while Cristiano Ronaldo captains the side as a free agent.

Portugal’s record goalscorer has had a bad season and to make matters worse, United terminated his contract with immediate effect this week. That came after a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, during which Ronaldo slammed everything connected to the football club — including the manager and previous teammates.

Full-back Joao Cancelo gets the nod ahead of Diogo Dalot at right-back, but we can still expect the vastly improved United star to feature throughout the tournament.

That also depends on how far Portugal get in the World Cup. They’re on the hunt for their third trophy in five years and what a send off that would be for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Not that we don’t think he deserves it.

We send our best wishes to Fernandes and Dalot ahead of their World Cup campaign.
