David Beckham open to talks with investors about Manchester United sale

Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham would like to be involved in a takeover of Manchester United.

David Beckham is open to holding talks with potential bidders for Manchester United, according to the Financial Times.

Prospective bidders could seek to enlist the former Manchester United midfielder to boost their chances of taking over the Premier League, it is understood, though will any billionaire want any outsider involvement for a project that will cost north of £7 billion?

The former England captain is still loved by United fans, although he has come under a lot of criticism this winter due to his mega-money ambassador role for the Qatar World Cup. He could spend that money wisely… by putting together the ultimate consortium to takeover United… I joke! Consortiums don’t work because businessmen always fall out.

You never see a new band and think, ‘they’re sticking together forever’, do you?

It goes without saying that Beckham could not afford the purchase on his own, but his wealth and longstanding history with United could improve an important part of an investment consortium. I would just like to advise him to avoid any calls from a certain Michael Knighton.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly preparing a bid for his boyhood club, but it remains to be seen if he is interested in having Beckham on board. I think a lot of fans would warm to the idea of them uniting, but I’m not convinced just yet because it will take a lot of convincing!

Manchester United is one of the biggest brands in sport, if not the biggest, so it’s no wonder Beckham wants to get involved in a potential takeover.
