Cristiano Ronaldo handed ban and fine by FA amid Manchester United exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has been fined £50,000 and handed a two-game suspension by the Football Association for knocking a fan’s mobile phone to the ground at Goodison Park last season.

Ronaldo has already had his Manchester United contract terminated this week but he has now been charged with improper conduct, during what has been a costly week for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

According to the Mirror, the FA are set to announce Ronaldo’s punishment today, along with written reasons for sanctioning the former United star.

The two-game ban only applies should Ronaldo join another Premier League club in the future. He has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Newcastle United but both seem unlikely right now.

It seems like Ronaldo has created a whirlwind of negative publicity for himself in the lead up to Portugal’s World Cup opener.

That begs the question if he is going to have a negative influence on their World Cup campaign?

Ronaldo leaves under a grey cloud

Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t the first great player to leave Manchester United under a grey cloud.

It will take time to digest everything he said – about the club, Erik ten Hag and former teammates – but Ronaldo won’t be forgotten for his first spell at Old Trafford.

That’s when it should have ended.
