Manchester United have announced that Cristiano Ronaldo is set to leave the club with immediate effect this evening.

The 37-year-old can now focus on his World Cup campaign with Portugal after making it very clear that he wanted to leave Manchester United in a recent interview with Piers Morgan.

That interview with TalkTV has cost him more than a tainted reputation at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo is now set to recieve zero compensation following his early departure. The report suggests that the amount left on the deal could have seen Ronaldo earn £16 million had he decided to stay until his contract expired.

Although we don’t think Ronaldo will care too much, it proves that the interview with Morgan was costly for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

It will forever be known as the explosive interview that got his United contract terminated.

Both parties can now go their separate ways, which is a good thing for manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag won’t need to deal with Ronaldo anymore and it looked like he was becoming a distraction in the dressing room. The interview made that clear.
