(Video) Ronaldo hits out at press over Bruno Fernandes ‘controversy’

Cristiano Ronaldo is continuing to make headlines ahead of Portugal’s opening game in the World Cup against Ghana later this week.

Last week, the 37-year-old threw his future at Manchester United into doubt after his controversial interview with TalkTV host Cristiano Ronaldo.

The day after the first clips from that 90-minute interview were released, Ronaldo was captured reuniting with United star Bruno Fernandes in Portugal, with the pair’s meeting appearing to be a little frosty.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Ronaldo has now denied those suggestions out of hand and hit out at the press for creating ‘controversy’ out of an interaction claimed to be innocent banter.

“This with Bruno Fernandes was another situation that unfortunately, didn’t go well for you (media) again,” Ronaldo told Football Daily.

“It was another one. You don’t fail that much so this was just another one. I simply just made a joke with him because he arrived late due to his flight and I asked if he’d come by boat. It was a joke and you made a storm.

“As it was with Joao Cancelo. He was a bit upset in training after a tough dispute with Felix. I got him from his neck and said ‘Hey man, you know to lift him up, come on, let’s go’. Then comes another controversy.

“But I’m used to it. Everything around Cristiano is always a reason for debate and talk. We see it on the TV news, it’s normal, I understand it.”
