Gary Neville gives verdict on Ronaldo’s potential sacking at Manchester United

Gary Neville has reacted to the news that Manchester United are considering sacking five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan this week.

It is understood that Manchester United waited until final part of Ronaldo’s interview with Morgan on Thursday night to begin legal proceedings. That way they could get the full picture of his accusations made about the club and its employees.

After a possible breach of contract, who would blame them? Accepting this sort of behaviour would undermine the manager, who is doing a good job despite having no respect from Ronaldo.

Ronaldo also criticised the current generation of youth players, but that hasn’t offended Anthony Elanga, who has gone on to praise the 37-year-old after the interview.

The former Real Madrid aim took aim at Gary Neville when he suggested that the football turned pundit only criticised him to become more famous. Throughout the interview, Ronaldo came across as someone who doesn’t accept constructive criticism, and chooses to surrounded himself by folk who think he’s perfect.

Ronaldo told Morgan, as quoted by The Mirror: “To listen as ex-colleagues or teammates criticise you, when they only see one point of view. It’s easy to criticise, I don’t know if you have a job in television that they must criticise to be more famous. I really don’t understand it.

“It’s hard when you see people who was in the dressing room with you criticising that way. I think they take advantage of that because they are not stupid. I’m the number one followed guy in the world. It’s not by coincidence.”

Neville has now responded to the news that United could terminate Ronaldo’s contract, therefore, making their top goalscorer from last season a free agent in January. The former United right-back tweeted: “Sad that it’s come to a point where arguably United’s greatest ever talent is likely to be sacked. It didn’t need to be like this. A mature conversation a few weeks ago between “both parties” could have secured a smooth exit.”

Stretty News’ verdict

We couldn’t agree more with Neville.

It raises questions as to why Ronaldo didn’t try to sort this in a more professional manner by having a conversation with Richard Arnold behind-closed-doors.

By running his mouth to Piers Morgan, he showed sheer disrespect towards everyone involved with Manchester United. It was a cheap way to gather clicks and publicity.

The fact of the matter is managers, players and leaching owners will come and go. Our job is to support the team and defend the club.
