There is still time for Garnacho to receive World Cup call-up

There is still time for Alejandro Garnacho to receive a call-up to the Argentina World Cup squad and his latest form has only bettered his case.

The 18-year-old is taking his opportunities from Erik ten Hag and making a statement in the Manchester United first-team; two goals and two assists in his recent short cameos.

His winner at Craven Cottage last Sunday sent United fans into hysterics after securing three points with the final kick of the game. Garnacho’s confident displays have shown there is talent to be excited about.

When the 26-man Argentine squad was announced, supporters felt as though the youngster was unlucky to miss out, especially after his positive spell since being named in several matchday squads. Garnacho has been called up for international duty in the past with the senior team but only completed training sessions.

However, manager Lionel Scaloni has given a glimmer of hope to the youngster of making the journey to Qatar.

On Wednesday, his side saw out a 5-0 win in a friendly against the United Arab Emirates. Scaloni told El Sol post-match that there is still a possibility he may make changes to his squad, as the deadline is not until 24 hours before their first fixture.

He said: “We have days to decide. There are some players who are physically troubled. The truth is that we are not sure that these 26 players are all in the squad. Luckily, we have days to decide if we have to make any modifications.”

Forwards Paulo Dybala, Papu Gomez and Nicolas Gonzalez are all injured and in a race for fitness, which may make room for a certain United forward that will be eager to make a name for himself on the world stage.
