Kylian Mbappe emerges as shock £150m target for Man United after Cristiano Ronaldo interview

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe recently signed a new contract with the French giants but his future at the club is far from certain.

That’s also true for Cristiano Ronaldo, who has thrown his future at Old Trafford into doubt after a shocking interview with TV host Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo admitted that he feels betrayed by the Old Trafford club and that there are people within United trying to force him out. As a result, it has been reported that United are now considering terminating Ronaldo’s contract.

Ronaldo has become an afterthought at United under Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman preferring several players over the 37-year-old.

Signing a striker is high on Ten Hag’s wishlist and now, it is being claimed that Mbappe has emerged as a shock target for United. That’s according to The Mirror, who say that United have accelerated plans to replace Ronaldo.

It’s claimed that the 23-year-old is of interest to the club and that United fit the criteria financially, with any deal believed to cost the Reds in excess of £150m.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, the top scorer in Serie A this season, is named as an alternative and the Italian club are bracing themselves for offers.

SN’s verdict…
United are at the first phase of Ten Hag’s rebuild and although signing players like Mbappe may be possible in the future, it definitely feels like a longshot at this point.

Ronaldo’s ill-advised interview has thrown everyone off, however. If he is to leave in January, it’s far from certain that the club will move to sign a replacement.

In all honesty, the first half of the season has more or less been without Ronaldo in any case. He has been on the bench for most Premier League games.
