Erik ten Hag showers Alejandro Garnacho with praise after late winner

Alejandro Garnacho was the star of the show once again as Manchester United stole all three points at Craven Cottage with less than 60 minutes remaining on the clock.

It looked like Erik ten Hag had to settle for a point in United’s final game before the season is put to a halt by the World Cup but up stepped Garnacho, who has enjoyed a breathtaking fortnight.

The fearless 18-year-old made an immediate impact when he came on against Fulham and his determination to get on the end of passes led to the winner.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag has become the latest person to shower Garnacho with praise after his stellar cameo in London.

“His work-rate and talent makes a big difference for us, we know he can give us goals, assists and joy of football,” Ten Hag said, according to BBC reporter Shamoon Hafez.

“No-one likes to be on the bench, the attitude he has coming on is fantastic. He is getting his rewards. It is a big skill he has (arrogance/self-confidence), don’t over act on it but that is what you need at the top and perform under stress.

“He shows the mentality, has the impact and belief. Twice in four days. I’m really happy we can bring a young player. That is the first one, we have to bring more. He is great, I like his belief and that is great work with, a real pleasure.”

SN’s verdict…
Perhaps it took longer than Garnacho was hoping for but now, he has cemented his place as a first-team regular and you’re likely to see more of him when domestic football resumes after the World Cup.

Garnacho does not look out of place in this squad and is fully deserving of chances. Ten Hag must be buzzing – he suddenly has yet another option in attack.
