Lisandro Martinez has been named in Argentina’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Lionel Scaloni’s squad includes Lionel Messi who will play in his fifth — and likely final — World Cup. They are unbeaten in their last 35 matches and are considered among the favourites to go all the way this winter.
Argentina have not won the World Cup since 1986 having won it two editions prior to that in 1978. It’s the one tournament that Messi really wants before hanging up his boots, although Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo will have something to say about that.
However, Martinez is part of a 26-man squad for the tournament, which was announced on Friday, and it will be his first World Cup as a player.
The defender has 9 caps to his name and is set to experience a World Cup for the first time.
Martinez joins four other Premier League stars in the squad including Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.
