Marcus Rashford wants to win silverware with Manchester United but he has outlined one key area the team must improve on.
Rashford is enjoying a fine start to the season in his first campaign under Erik ten Hag, who has seemingly restored faith in the forward to play with confidence.
Last season, Rashford struggled with injuries and consequently, to maintain form. It’s refreshing to see the 25-year-old light up the pitch again and have his name regularly on the scoresheet.
On October 29, he hit a remarkable personal milestone of 100 career goals for the Red Devils.
The Old Trafford faithful will likely always have more of a soft spot for Rashford, as he progressed through the academy ranks at Carrington and dedicated his future to the club he has supported since he was a child.
After all, he is a United fan just like the rest of us.
Rashford has his say
In an interview with MUTV, the England international addressed the stresses of last season and how the summer break allowed him to adequately rest.
He said: “I think physically I needed a rest, and I’ve probably needed a rest for a while, but mentally, just to have two weeks or whatever it was just to switch off – it’s something that I probably don’t do enough. Because we’re obviously really busy and there’s always something to look forward to and something to work towards.
“I didn’t know I needed it. But when I’ve had it, when I’ve come back, and even towards the back end of [the] holidays, I just felt in a different headspace, to be honest.”
Regarding his future in as a Red, he is keen to achieve with the club.
“I want to win the biggest trophies. I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to play in finals for the club, win finals for the club, and have a few trophies under my name, but I want to get the big trophies – I want to get the Premier League, the Champions League.
“But we can’t expect to just jump back to those heights. This season we’ve showed at times that we can compete with the best teams in the league, and then we’ve showed that there’s no room to switch off.
“So we have to find a balance between the two and find consistency because I believe in the players and in the staff and in the manager. I just feel like if we perform as well as we can perform, then we don’t have to worry about any other teams.
“If we just focus on ourselves and perform as best as we can every game, we’ll win more games than we’ll lose or draw. For me, that’s my main focus.”
