Manchester United among Premier League clubs tracking Sporting Lisbon starlet

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has made just six appearances for Sporting Lisbon this season, yet reports suggest the Ghana international is attracting interest from Manchester United.

Issahaku, 18, plays as an attacking midfielder but has yet to register any goals or assists since breaking into the first team. However, that has not stopped him garnering attention from Premier League clubs looking for the next best prospect to emerge from Portuguese football.

Portuguese publication O Jojo claims Everton are one of the clubs following Issahaku closely after being impressed by his 19 minute cameo against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

It is also suggested that United are monitoring the young midfielder, while Liverpool have turned down the opportunity to seal his signature.

The Ghana starlet, who has eight caps at international level, will be going to the World Cup this winter and that is when we’ll get to see him come up against some of the best players in the world.

In Group H (World Cup), Ghana will face Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea so they will need to be at their best going into the tournament.

Stretty News verdict

You can’t look too much into these reports because United get linked with 100s of players every year. The only good thing about speculation ahead of this World Cup is that it may encourage United fans to watch matches they’d have no interest in unless it involves a player linked with the club.

Issahaku isn’t a player I have seen in action before but that will soon change. We will keep a close eye on what the Portuguese newspapers are writing about his interest from United, though.

The Portuguese league is full of fantastic players as the Premier League has learned in recent years. Diogo Dalot has been our most improved player this season, while Bruno Fernandes has had a huge impact since arriving from Sporting.
