Sheringham urges Manchester United to sign two Premier League stars

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has urged the club to pay over the odds if they want to sign Harry Kane, a goalscorer he considers to be a better option than Paris Saint-Germain and France striker Kylian Mbappe.

Erik ten Hag made six new signings in the summer and they have all played well this season. Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka (loan) all made the move to Old Trafford as we look to improve the team under the new manager.

The former United and England striker told Genting Casino, as cited by Manchester Evening News: “Man United have always bought the best. They have signed Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney – all were the best available. You need players with professionalism, desire and focus and they should look no further than Harry Kane.

“They’re desperate for a focal point up front and if they should also get Declan Rice, who knows when to calm it down and speed it up. United used to pay over the odds to get these players and they must do it again.

“I don’t think Mbappe is what United need … they need focused and determined players like Kane and Rice. They may not be the most flair players but they do the right things at the right time. Mbappe is a wonderful player but I don’t know if you need another flair player like [Marcus] Rashford, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Antony.”

Sheringham added Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans as a player he thinks would top off a dream transfer window for United.

He said: “I like Tielemans, he’s got some flair about him. He’s scored some lovely goals this season and that’s why he’s on the tip of everyone’s tongue. It’s difficult to know whether he’s our 100% midfielder week in, week out. I know he shows flashes of brilliance but it’s difficult to know whether he can do it every week.”

Mbappe over Kane? I don’t think so…

If Ten Hag had the option to sign Kylian Mbappe, I don’t think he would think twice about it. How can Sheringham suggest he isn’t determined?

Kane is one of the best strikers in the world but Mbappe is one of the best players in the world. Period.

The fact of the matter is Kane is a more realistic shout for United right now and I think he would move to Old Trafford in the morning if he could. At 29, he may look at United embarking on a new journey under Erik ten Hag and think, I might have a bit of that.

United are approaching their sixth year without a trophy. Ten Hag will be the one to end that wait, but I don’t think he will have Mbappe at his disposal…
