Manchester United deal for De Gea replacement unlikely + Henderson seeks permanent exit

Manchester United are less likely to approach FC Porto’s Diogo Costa after he signed a new contract with the club, including a hefty release clause.

The Reds had scouted Costa in recent months but were yet to make official contact with the player or begin negotiations. The club were eyeing potential replacements for David de Gea, who is in the final year of his contract in Manchester and whose form has fluctuated over the past few seasons.

According to Fabrizio Romano, writing his Daily Briefing column, he confirmed that nothing had been decided yet regarding the Spaniard’s future and that United will continue to monitor Costa.

He said: “There is no decision yet on De Gea, still the same situation – we’ll see when Man United and Erik ten Hag will decide.”

He also gave an update on Dean Henderson, as the Englishman is expected to return to his parent club at the end of the 2022/2023 season, after a season-long loan spell at Nottingham Forest.

Romano reported: “I think Dean Henderson will look for different options after going out on loan this season.”
