Manchester United face Barcelona in Europa League play-offs

Manchester United have been drawn against Barcelona in the Europa League round play-offs.

It was arguably the toughest draw Erik ten Hag could have asked for and we got it. Paul Scholes explained last week that he wants United to face Barcelona in the play-offs simply because it’s the biggest tie the competition could ask for, while Owen Hargreaves said he wanted the two teams to meet in the final.

The stage of the competition features eight runners-up from their Europa League groups, including United, playing the eight teams who were third in their Champions League group.

Barcelona finished third behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

United will take on Barcelona in the first leg on 16 February, with the second leg on 23 February.

The winner will enter the last-16, which includes the teams that topped their Europa League group such as Real Sociedad and Arsenal.
