Leon Bailey vents fury over referees after unpunished elbows from Lisandro Martinez

Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey strikes us as a bit of a soft lad. It appears his head has grown a few inches after scoring against Manchester United at the weekend, only to use Twitter to slam match officials despite being fortunate enough to be on the winning side.

There is no excusing United’s performance at Villa Park. We deserved to be two goals down after 11 minutes and couldn’t defend our goal after pulling on back on the brink of half-time. Any belief we had quickly evaporated.

It was a frustrating afternoon for United nonetheless. The game reached boiling point about an hour in when Leon Bailly and Lisandro Martinez tussled for a loose ball.

That was when Martinez elbowed the Jamaica international twice into the ribs. Bailey was left floored after the clash and had to be sidelined temporarily.

Thankfully for Martinez, his double-elbow went under the radar as the referee waved on play.

Bailey took to Twitter after the match to state that he was disappointed with the officials for letting Martinez away with it. He wrote: “Very disappointed in the referees today, I couldn’t breath for a second after getting elbowed twice in my rib. The linesman went on to say I shouldn’t be saying anything because I was doing just the same thing to Martinez. Sometimes I don’t understand why we got VAR. SMH.”

Someone should tell Bailey that VAR wasn’t introduced to deal with such petty incidents.

The Argentine has become a renowned figure in our defence for bringing a sense of bite back to United. We absolutely love it!
