Dalot slams United for slow starts after Aston Villa defeat

Diogo Dalot insists Manchester United must learn from their slow starts to both halves after they cost them dearly in losing to Aston Villa.

United found themselves 2-0 down inside the first 11 minutes at Villa Park, so there was an uphill climb to face from the beginning, but the Reds never woke up and failed to perform on the day.

We only managed one goal thanks to a deflection from a Luke Shaw shot, which came on the brink of half time. After conceding early in the second half everyone knew the game was heading for a disappointing end.

Dalot has hit out at the slow starts as a major problem for United to solve over the coming days. That may stem from the fact Erik ten Hag hasn’t got a very big squad to select from and players are starting to show fatigue.

The right-back picked up a yellow card during the game, therefore, will miss United’s league match against Fulham.

Dalot was even more disappointed by the nature of the third goal United conceded this afternoon.

“We knew today was going to be a difficult game, we didn’t start the way we wanted, the first 10 minutes, then, especially the first five minutes of the second half. It’s a lesson for us for the next games, we have to start much quicker and sharper,” Dalot told MUTV, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“It went against our plans, we wanted to come to the second half with control of the ball, score as soon as possible, but it was the opposite, it’s a lesson and a moment we have to look back and learn from it.”
