Diogo Dalot’s emergence as one of Manchester United’s most important players is one of the success stories of this season, with Erik ten Hag making it clear that he is the only right-back he considers good enough.
Dalot is the only outfielder to start every single game for United this season and his development has been impressive under the new manager.
The Portugal international is now hoping to build on his stellar season by starring for his nation at this winter’s World Cup, with Portugal expected to be one of the favourites.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game against Aston Villa, Dalot has talked about his development and highlighted the importance of having a coach like Ten Hag.

“I think it’s something that you try to improve every single day,” Dalot told Sky Sports, as seen above. “Not just defensively but offensively, you always have something you can add on to your game.
“Obviously, the help that this manager and the confidence that he is bringing to me every single week and every single day, it’s helping me to be a better football player, a better man as well.
“I’m very happy with the confidence that he is giving me. What I want is to give him back on the pitch – with games like this, with moments like this and I think this is the way it should be.”
Dalot has been much-maligned since he joined the club from Porto in 2018 and it wasn’t until Ralf Rangnick was appointed in 2021 that there was a shift for the full-back.
Up until that point, Aaron Wan-Bissaka had been preferred by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but now, it looks like the future is bleak for the former Crystal Palace man.
