(Video) Erik ten Hag praises Real Sociedad manager ahead of crucial Europa League clash

Manchester United are chasing a first-place finish in their Europa League as only victory by two goals or more against Real Sociedad would achieve that for Erik ten Hag’s men.

United have won their last four games in the Europa League but the opening-day defeat to La Real at Old Trafford means that they must reverse that result to qualify straight to the round of 16 when the tournament resumes next year.

The Reds did not impress on that day but the deciding goal came after a dubious penalty was awarded in the second half. Nevertheless, the Basque side have won all five of their games and Ten Hag has praised his counterpart, Imanol Alguacil, ahead of Thursday’s huge game.

“We are growing the last games,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports, as seen above. “We develop, we make some good progress so we are confident but we know it’s difficult to win games here.

“But we like that challenge. We know we have to win with two goals difference so we have planned for that. We do everything to get that done.

“I think their coach, he likes proactive football. Their coach, the philosophy, I like that. They want to play so I think he will stick to that but we have to read.

“If it’s a different approach, we have to adapt as well but we know what to do.”
