Manchester United will either trigger the one-year extension deal in Marcus Rashford’s contract or offer the forward a new deal entirely by the end of the year.
The England international, who celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday, hit a remarkable personal milestone of scoring 100 career goals for the club when United faced West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
His goal was enough to secure three points for the Reds after a tightly connected affair with the Irons. The win moved United to fifth in the table, above Chelsea and one point behind fourth-placed Newcastle with a game in hand.
According to the Daily Mail, United will extend Rashford’s stay at the club and are currently deciding between two options; activating an extension or offering him a new contract. His current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2023.
The decision is likely due to Rashford’s impressive run of form, as well as to fend off interest from other clubs. Paris Saint-Germain officials met with the player’s representatives last summer, and United will be keen to ensure Rashford stays put.
Rashford will commit future to United
The striker has been a Red since 2005, dedicating his whole career to the club and becoming a graduate of Carrington.
Chris Wheeler confirmed: “Erik ten Hag sees Rashford as central to his plans and it is understood that the Manchester-born player wants to stay at the club he joined at the age of seven.”
