Man United duo not spotted in training ahead of Europa League showdown

Manchester United are preparing for potentially their biggest game of the season, with Erik ten Hag’s men making the trip to Spain to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

United are currently second in Group E and they must win and score at least two goals to leapfrog Real Sociedad in the table to end the group stage at the summit.

Ten Hag will be desperate to finish first in the group and thus avoid the scenario of needing to play two extra play-off games against teams dropping down from the Champions League.

There are a couple of selection headaches Ten Hag will need to deal with ahead of the crucial showdown, however, with wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho among those with question marks over them.

According to the Manchester Evening News, neither of United’s big-money signings of the past two summers were spotted in training on Wednesday.

Sancho has been an unused substitute in both of United’s last two games after a poor run of form whilst Antony, who became the first United player to score in his first three Premier League appearances last month, missed the 1-0 win against West Ham due to an injury.

It remains unclear whether they are available for the game against Real Sociedad but their absence from training is certainly not a good sign.

Ten Hag must now decide whether he sticks with the attacking formation which dispatched West Ham over the weekend or if Alejandro Garnacho, who impressed last week against FC Sheriff, is recalled.

Anthony Martial could also be an option for the Dutchman after the forward returned to full training earlier this week whilst Facundo Pellistri remains available.
