Ten Hag faces Garnacho dilemma vs West Ham – opinion

Erik ten Hag has a number of decisions to make today as Manchester United take on West Ham in the Premier League. The most interesting one will come on the left wing.

Jadon Sancho has not performed well in recent weeks, but I would be shocked if the England international didn’t start today, even though Erik ten Hag faces a bit of a dilemma over whether to give Alejandro Garnacho his second consecutive start in the team.

The academy graduate stole the show with his performance against FC Sheriff on Thursday night and certainly deserves to be involved at some stage versus the Hammers.

Of course, Ten Hag could opt to play Ronaldo down the middle, with Marcus Rashford on the left – but I think the latter will be chosen to lead the line.

What will Ten Hag do?

The Dutchman could use Garnacho’s performance midweek to demand more from Sancho.

It won’t do Sancho’s confidence any good to keep him out of the team and we shouldn’t forget that he started the season brightly. The manager can afford to keep Garnacho waiting on the wings since he only experienced his full senior debut at the club.

A 20 minute cameo from the bench could be in store.

Ten Hag should put the test to Sancho because there is an argument to be had over Garnacho offering more from the left flank. We may even see Anthony Elanga!
