Manchester United have returned to winning ways in the Premier League as they secured three huge points against a resilient West Ham side on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s men are now unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions and it really looks like a corner has been turned under the Dutchman.

Marcus Rashford’s towering first-half header proved to be enough for United on the day, with the strike landing him his 100th goal for the club.

It was, however, at the other end of the pitch that another United star would be making headlines. David de Gea was back at his brilliant best, with the Spaniard making two incredible saves in the dying embers to make sure he leaves Old Trafford with a clean sheet for the third straight Premier League game.

Speaking after the game, West Ham manager David Moyes was quick to praise De Gea, with whom he worked for a season almost a decade ago, for his late stops.

“David de Gea was fantastic,” he is quoted as saying by BBC reporter Shamoon Hafez. “We know how good a goalkeeper he is.

“The two he saved have been worldies. I am pleased for him, he is a great guy.”

SN’s verdict…
It feels like the state of play surrounding De Gea is always turbulent but as things stand, his stocks are high and they have been for quite a while.

The 2021/22 season was his best in several years and you can really tell that he has made a concerted effort to adapt to Ten Hag’s demands and rules.

De Gea is out of contract at the end of this season and a decision needs to be made. Regardless of what that decision is, his career cannot be undermined.
