Manchester United given promising update on Cody Gakpo transfer chances

Manchester United are reportedly “more likely” to sign Cody Gakpo than Premier League rivals Arsenal.

United were close to signing the forward in the summer before prioritising the signing of Antony, who cost the club £86 million and consequently concluded the additions of the transfer window.

After a deal failed to materialise, Gakpo admitted it was a “shame” to have not completed the move and named United “one of the biggest clubs in the world”.

Since then the Netherlands international has only continued to show the club what they are missing. Statistically, Gakpo is the only forward who is racking up goal contributions at the same rate as Manchester City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland.

So far this season, Gakpo has scored 13 goals and contributed 13 assists in only 20 matches – remarkable numbers for the 23-year-old. He is the exact kind of player United are missing, especially as Anthony Martial continues to struggle with maintaining fitness.

United given promising transfer update regarding Gakpo

Dean Jones told GiveMeSport: “He’s been brilliant this season for PSV, and there’s no doubt that he is going to look for a transfer in 2023. So I still think he’s a player people should take seriously in the Premier League for a transfer. I still think that, probably Man United are more likely to land him than Arsenal.”

Let us know if you think United will try to sign Gakpo in January?
