Gennaro Gattuso identifies Manchester United midfielder as Valencia target

Donny van de Beek will be hoping to get opportunities over the next fortnight now he has returned from injury.

The Netherlands international was sidelined for seven weeks due to an injury before he returned to action on Thursday night as a substitute against FC Sheriff.

Van de Beek is looking for his first start in a United shirt since December 2021 and he has a lot to prove. Whether or not he can find a way into United’s new midfield in the long-term is another question.

On another note, the former Ajax midfielder will miss out on the World Cup this winter. He has not been included in a Netherlands squad for 18 months and that won’t be changing anytime soon.

There is also a chance Van de Beek could look to rejuvenate his career elsewhere.

A report from TodoFicjahes claims Valencia are interested in Van de Beek with manager Gennaro Gattuso eager to make a number of signings in January.

They are welcome to him – for the right price.

Cashing in on Van de Beek

Although I’d like to see Van de Beek get more minutes in the team, I am of the opinion that he is surplus to requirements and won’t be happy to spend another few months on the bench.

There’s just no way I can see him breaking into the line-up but his focus needs to be on staying fit and available for selection. Otherwise it will never work out for him.
