Ten Hag outlines Garnacho’s key qualities after impressive debut

Alejandro Garnacho made his senior debut for Manchester United as they faced Sheriff in Thursday evening’s Europa League tie.

The 18-year-old was playing with confidence in attack for United and was unfortunate to not mark his debut with a goal contribution.

Fans were thrilled to see Garnacho’s name on the team sheet as the youngster has made a name for himself at youth level since joining United from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

After lighting up Old Trafford with his skill and dribbling, it became clear that Garnacho is the type of player to be a nightmare for defenders.

What’s notably impressive about the teenager is that he plays with no fear; he’s eager to impress the fans, take on his man and put everything into creating an attack. Ensuring he plays, whilst also monitoring his minutes and development, could give United a fierce attacking threat for years to come.

Garnacho was awarded United’s Player of the Match at full-time and it’s likely the first of many.

Ten Hag on Garnacho

Speaking to MUTV, Ten Hag reflected on the forward’s performance, he said: “Yes [I liked the performance]. He deserved this chance, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement, especially in the defending part, the pressing part, the counter-press, the defence transition.

“But what you can see, attack areas he can find solutions. He is a really good tempo dribbler. He can out play opponents with tempo dribbling, and that is what you need against tight, compact playing opponents.”
