Erik ten Hag has given an update on the return of sidelined striker Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has missed 12 weeks of action this season and has accumulated just 133 minutes on the pitch.

In his short cameos for United, he has contributed three goals and two assists. Since August, he has suffered from hamstring, achilles and back injuries.

Martial is a significant loss to the squad, especially as United deal with a hectic schedule of fixtures leading up to and after the World Cup.

Having to rotate between 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford, who has also struggled to maintain fitness, is far from ideal for Ten Hag.

The Reds are currently sixth in the Premier League and there have been certain scenarios in which you can see the team are in desperate need of a number nine.

As much as Rashford can produce a bit of magic on the pitch when United need it, the 24-year-old struggles to produce the final product occasionally.

Ten Hag’s update on Martial

Ten Hag has, however, given an update on the return of the Frenchman, he told the Man Utd website: “He’s improving. He’s back on the [training] pitch, not in the group so we have to wait for that step. But hopefully he’s back [soon].”

Hopefully this time he can stay fit!
