Manchester United considered Bayer Leverkusen goalscorer when Rangnick was in charge

Manchester United’s search for a new striker has seen the club linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen goalscorer Patrik Schick.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says there has been no contact over a deal but that United looked at Schick when Ralf Rangnick was in charge last season.

“There’s some talk again of Patrik Schick being an option for Manchester United,” Romano told CaughtOffside. “He was one of the players scouted under Ralf Rangnick, but now there are still no contacts ongoing.

“I think he’s a very talented player, but needs to be more consistent; for sure, he could be a good option for many big clubs in the Premier League.”

These reports come at a time Anthony Martial is struggling to stay fit, Jadon Sancho isn’t influencing games and Marcus Rashford’s finishing is letting us down in big moments.

We also have a natural goalscorer in Cristiano Ronaldo but at 37, the game is catching up with him and he doesn’t suit how Ten Hag wants to attack in games.

Schick has established himself as one of the prominent goalscorers in the Bundesliga and it sounds like he will be on United’s radar at least. Whether he’s the best option is completely different story.

Rangnick being interested in one thing, Ten Hag’s approval is another

I don’t think Ten Hag took lightly to Rangnick wanting to assist his transition as manager at Old Trafford earlier this summer, so I don’t think the Dutchman will be interested in which players the current Austria manager recommended for United.

Ten Hag will go after Schick if he rates him.

We shouldn’t forget how United shut the door on Rangnick. They would have kept him if they wanted his advice on future transfers.
