Manchester United set to step up search for new right-back

Fresh reports suggest Manchester United’s main priority going into the winter transfer window is the right-back position.

I think it would be fair to say everyone has enjoyed watching Diogo Dalot get a run in the team under Erik ten Hag, but at the same time there is reason to be considered about the lack of competition he faces from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

To Wan-Bissaka’s credit, however, he has been injured for most of the season. I just don’t think he has the attributes required to make it as a full-back in Ten Hag’s team.

Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg claims United’s main priority in January will be to sign a right-back, with Jeremie Frimpong listed as one of the targets identified.

The former Manchester City academy player has been in Germany since 2010. He eventually joined Celtic in 2019 before attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen. That is where he has took his game to the next level – leading to interest from clubs like United.

Dalot is good but United could do better

While the Portugal international has impressed this season, I would be naive to think it’s an area that couldn’t be improved.

We could still sign someone young — like Frimpong — and watch two players battle it out for a place in the team.

That would be the ideal scenario.
