Martin Svidersky was one of the youngsters to leave Manchester United this summer and the young midfielder has been tipped for a great future.
Svidersky was a prominent figure in United’s youth ranks but as he climbed the ladder at a lower level, he started attracting interest from clubs across Europe. Last year, Stretty News revealed that the Slovakian player had rejected a contract renewal from the Old Trafford club as he wanted to gain valuable first-team experience.
Bridging the gap between academy football and breaking into the senior side is always the most difficult step and that has seen a number of players leave in recent years, with Svidersky being the most recent one.
Speaking now, after completing a move to Spanish outfit Almeria over the summer, Svidersky has opened up on his departure from United and his failure to realise his ‘dream’ of playing for the Reds.
“I experienced a lot of nice moments in Manchester, but also difficult moments. They definitely strengthened me and taught me a lot. I tried to use every second. I think I made the most of my time. It’s true that I didn’t manage to fulfil the dream I came for was very close but I chose a different path,” Svidersky told Flashscore.
“I prioritised personal development over ‘fame’. I met great people who I have stayed in touch with. Thank you also for my second parents from Manchester who have already come to visit me in Spain.
“Time in England I see it as a huge experience that brought me more positives than negatives. I learned from the difficult days and I draw from the experience in the present days. I mean the period from injuries, through operations to the captain’s armband in all categories.”
SN’s verdict…
Unfortunately, Svidersky’s need for immediate development coincided with United’s need for heavy investment in his position and when that happens, it’s always difficult to make the case for an academy player.
In quite a similar fashion, former academy player James Garner was tipped to become a regular for United and this summer felt like the perfect springboard for him to do so.
Instead, United signed two players in his position and from that point, it always looked like an exit was the best route for the player.
